groom's cake

so, it's traditional in the south (where i am now, how weird is that...) for the groom to gets his own special cake. i'm not 100% on all of the significance behind it, but i love the idea. just about everything in this wedding is more my taste/style/ideas. i've tried very hard to incorporate dan into all of the details, but weddings tend to lean on the girly side, can't help that. so the idea of getting him something that is completely him appeals to me. this started the difficult task of figuring out what the heck the cake should be. i've pretty much only seen grooms cakes in steel magnolias and cake boss, and that doesn't lend to a lot of ideas. then i came across this cake, and it screams 'dan':

if all goes well, this will be presented to him at the rehearsal dinner and i think he'll LOVE it. he doesn't think i'm getting him a grooms cake so i love the element of surprise. now i'm just waiting to hear back on price quotes.... this is coming out of my christmas money so hopefully it's not too outrageous :)

accessories

i'm pretty lucky, i love the 2nd pair of shoes i tried, i thought i was going to be in an endless return cycle with zappos, but happily, that was not the case. they're cute, 2.5" heel which is manageable, and i love the bit of sparkle on the top!

i never thought i'd get a tiara, but once i started browsing through them i knew i wanted to at least have the option, and this one is cute and sparkly and i'm having a hard time restraining myself from wearing it randomly around the house. not sure yet if it'll end up being worn on our wedding day, but i hope so.

and finally, the rings. not really 'accessories' but since it's all the same timeline this feels as good a place as any to put them.

mine is 1/4 ct diamond band:

and dan's is a tungsten & silver two tone band:

that's all for now!

the invitations

sometimes i really am scatterbrained. i've gone through a few proof cycles on my invitations and each time i submit changes, the proofs are no longer available online. and even knowing this, i approved the finals without taking screenshots of each of the various elements. grrr!!

anyways, i did manage to get a screenshot of the invitation, and it's so cute! the orange is the perfect shade (i'm still having a hard time selling orange to people, but i love it) and it's a nice, clean, contemporary look. i didn't want all white or embossed or script font. i wanted simple and colorful, and i think i achieved it :) now i just have to wait for those to be delivered and the envelopes i ordered, and i'll be in business!

wedding attire

i picked out my dress long ago. i fell in love with it online and then fell in love with it at the store. it's currently in a bag in our guest bedroom waiting for may 8th. of course, i've gained some weight since i bought it so i'm in the 'please let this fit' stage.

now, for the bridesmaids. this has been a bit more tricky, but i think i have the dress and the color:

This was difficult because i always thought it would be a pink or orange dress. but the pink at david's bridal is too dark, the orange has been vetoed by everyone, so that leaves us with the blue. it's a pretty dress, though.

and finally my handsome fiance will be wearing his army blues. i can't wait to see him in them!!

organized thoughts

ok, so it's been a few hours and i'm hoping i can write a somewhat logical post.

first off, in the off-chance that someone other than my mom reads this, hi, my name is aubrey. i'm 30 years old from richmond, va (originally from orange county, ca), and in a little under 6 months, i will be marrying the man of my dreams, dan.

this is us :)

aren't we cute?

anyways, on to the wedding! may 8th, 2010 we will have our ceremony and reception in corolla, nc. i absolutely fell in love with this venue's veranda and knew that was where i wanted to get married.

So far we have colors & location. more to come later!

let's get this started

yes, it's been exactly 10 minutes since my first post. i got rid of all of the attempts at a custom layout and figured to concentrate on gathering my thoughts.

first up, the wedding colors. pink, orange & blue. and i never had any idea how many different shades of each of those colors existed. these are the shades i picture in my head:

I love the way orange & pink look together and the fiance's favorite color is blue so I know I want to find a good balance between the 3.

A couple of inspiration pics I've found:

This is from my florist's site!

good grief

so i thought it would be a great idea for me to get all my thoughts together on a blog. i have NO creativity and yet i have a random collection of images in my head for what i want our wedding to be. oh, that's important... the whole point of this blog is to put together wedding ideas for our wedding on may 8th, 2010.

in my attempts to get a blog started, though, i spent hours trying to figure out the colored backgrounds. just colors. it's not even 100% how i want it, i just figured i needed to let it go and start actually putting some content on here. but i'm exhausted from the design so i'm just going to write a few paragraphs and be done with this for a while. so pathetic!
